Deanne Palmer is a contemporary Australian painter and sculptor based in Sydney, NSW. Her practice is grounded in environmental themes across land and marine ecosystems, exploring the relationship between human presence and the natural world, with a focus on restoration, resilience and repair.
Initially trained in oil painting, Deanne later transitioned to encaustic - a medium of beeswax, damar resin, and pigment - drawn to its natural origins, archival stability and capacity for depth and translucency. Working across painting and sculpture, she uses material and process to reflect the complexity and interconnectedness of ecological systems.
Deanne often integrates repurposed and found materials within her sculptural works, reinforcing her commitment to sustainability in both concept and practice. These tactile, luminous forms encourage engagement with art as a space where beauty and environmental responsibility coexist.
Her work centres on renewal, responding to environmental change with care and possibility. Each sculpture and painting evolves slowly and deliberately, building surfaces that hold and reveal traces of its making, echoing the idea that repair is ongoing and never complete. This layered approach mirrors cycles in nature, inviting reflection and cultivating a quiet sense of hope.
